Soothe a Crying Baby
Did you know that babies cry? Oh, you did? Maybe you weren’t aware how much they can and do cry. Babies can cry for hours a day, heck even my kids still cry about something at least once a day and they are four! There are many times you will be able to soothe your baby, and there will plenty of times where you can’t. If your baby is clean, fed and changed, why is the baby still crying? It can be frustrating especially for new parents.
Here are some tips for trying to calm a baby:
Swaddle. Swaddle that baby with a blanket, tight is the key. It reminds the baby of being in the womb and this was a life saver with my son.
White Noise. For nine months the baby is in your noisy womb so complete silence is foreign to him. Use a fan, run water, music or a noise machine.
Pacifier. Don’t underestimate the power of a paci. Some lactation consultants will warn against pacifiers but it worked wonders for my daughter to calm and soothe herself and I wonder if that is why she is and always has been a much better sleeper then my son.
Move. Babies love movement. Carry the baby in a sling or carrier, try a swing or even the stroller for an afternoon walk.
