Deals on Baby Gear

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I love deals and being a stay at home mom, I have to find good deals to help my husband’s paycheck last even longer. Babies, though small, sure cost a lot of money. Any deal I can get, I appreciate it. Today I will be sharing some deals I have found on the internet recently.

If you are looking for bedding for your nursery or child’s room, check out Pottery Barn kids clearance items.
If you like Talbots, Talbots kids is having a great sale on kid’s clothes right now. Check it out.

Are you in the market for a stroller, Maclaren has strollers on sale right now at babye-store.com. From single to twins strollers they have great prices. I love Maclaren and would never buy another brand of stroller.

Morganandmilo.com has great shoes for kids and right now they have a bunch on sale.

Do you need something inexpensive for a child’s birthday or baby shower? try these sailboat bath toys or letter link crabs.

Always check out babycenter.com for great deals. Right now they have sale and clearance items for up to 70% off. They have gear, clothing and toys on clearance.

Ride Ons for Toddlers

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Looking for a ride on toy for your little one this holiday season? Kids all love toys that they can ride on and go or push. My kids each had one they would ride around the house forever in. We had another hand me down for the outside. They still will get on any ride on they see, even if they don’t fit!

This is the Radio Flyer Big Flyer. Classic radio flyer made new for your little racer. It has three adjustable seat positions to grow with your child and it is for children three years to seven years. It is perfect for the racing fan. This is reasonable at $49.99.

bike.jpg
For younger kids let them get the hang of a ride on with this Fisher Price Baby Gymnastics Bounce and Spin Zebra. This rocks and spins 360 degrees. It has lights and music and locks into place until child is safely on the zebra. It is for babies 12=36 months, great for babies first Christmas.

car.jpg
Every child I know LOVES the Little Tykes Coupe. This one is kid’s favorites, Dora the Explorer. This is a lead free toy! It is $59.99 for kids 18-36 months.

car1.jpg
We can’t leave our Diego fans out! This ride on is just like the ones my kids had in the house. The kids could ride around my house safely and they loved opening and putting stuff in the seat and taking it out again! It is very sturdy and you cannot beat it for $29.99. This one has a horn but my daughter’s had music that was so loud I had to put tape over the speaker. That is my only complaint about these sit on or push cars.

Toys for Babies Not Made in China

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Every parent I know is concerned about lead in children’s toys, baby gear and accessories for kids. I know I have been going through my cabinets, throwing away plastic cups and plates and trying to replace them with safe products. It will make me sick to throw away all the sippy cups and bottles I have saved for this baby. Never mind all the baby toys I have saved that I now have to test for lead. Every week up until Christmas I will list some safe toys made for babies and toddlers and none of them will be made in China.

toy.jpg
This Nest Jax toy cube is made from sustainable materials including organic cotton and recycled wood. Made in India through a fair-trade partnership. Perfect as a toy bin in a child’s room, closet or as a hamper. This comes in orange, green, pink and purple.

nest.jpg
This Nest Seat is great for one or two children. It has interlocking parts to share with a friend or sit alone. Better then a bean bag chair and more durable. Made from sustainable materials including 100% certified organic cotton and is also made in India through a fair trade partnership.
It comes in orange, purple and green.

litt.jpg
Little Tykes 5-in-1 Adjustable Gym is perfect for babies from birth to three years old. It adjusts into twelve different positions and for five different stages of development.
Little Tykes makes over 70% of their toys in the U.S. and tests everything it sells.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

mat1.jpg
After you become a parent and you have all of the things you registered for, all of the things you bought on a whim and all of the things you thought you could not live without, you realize your house is full of stuff you used once, or never. This is so true with a lot of baby gear. Sure you need a clothes, diapers, bottles, wipes and a place for baby to sleep, but what else?

This HABA Dream Baby Play Mat is not a necessity but it sure is cute and functional! This alternative to a regular floor mat has lateral sides can be flapped up so that the playing rug changes into a little bed or flapped down for a changing station. It has a wooded rod with a squeaker, rustling and glitter foil pockets included. Hanging toys can be purchased separetly. The best part is that the cover is removable for easy washing. It has a ton of different things to look at or touch on the sides and overhead.
It measures 54″ l x 48″ w.
It is not cheap at about $150.00, but it is different and perfect for baby when you travel overnight or for use as a bed or changing station when you visit family or friends for the day.
mat.jpg

HABA toys are are some of the best designed toys worldwide, meeting Eupopean standards, but this toy is made in China and I know many parents want to be aware of where their children’s toys are made.

Beautiful Crib Bedding

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

dwellbaby_garden_blossom-new_l.jpg

One of the web sites I love is dwellshop.com because they are the greatest unique things for your home. I was so caught up in looking for things for my own house that I didn’t realize they sold great things for baby.

Check out this beautiful crib set from dwell, Garden Blossom. It comes in a traditional crib size or for oval cribs. It is beautiful without being overly frilly and would go with any home’s decor. They also sell matching hooded blankets, bibs and burp set, pillow and stroller blanket. I have never seen that before with any other crib set. It is priced at $384.00 for the crib set.
They sell so many beautiful crib sets with modern, unique fabrics that goes beyond Pooh Bear and polka dots.
Think it stops at baby bedding? You would be wrong, Garden Blossom and other sets are available for kids beds too. They have duvet covers and sheet sets for twins and full beds. I am always happy when people carry sheets for kids in full sets because that is what my children each have and it is a pain to get sheet sets that are cute enough for kids but lovely enough that I want to look at it for a year!

Are you looking for a upscale baby gift? What about a cashmere/cotton receiving blanket? It is of generous size at 28 x 34.5″, comes in chocolate and pink or chocolate and blue. It is reasonably priced at $84.00.

They also make great toys for baby like these soft blocks or these hand puppets that all babies seem to love.

Play Kitchen Recall

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

laughandlearnsm.jpg
Will this ever end? Now there is more new baby gear recalls that came out yesterday from Mattel toys. Mattel recalled 172,000 Mexican-made Laugh & Learn 2-in-1 Learning Kitchen toys on Tuesday after several children choked on small, detachable parts.

The Laugh and Learn Kitchen Toys are pretend kitchens. The product number L5067 is stamped on several locations on the toy.
The toy kitchens were sold at retail and toy stores nationwide from May 2007 through October 2007 for about $70.
If you have one of these toy kitchen sets, you should take it away from your child and contact Fisher-Price for a free repair kit, you can call them at (888) 812-7187.
Are these recalls affecting your purchases this holiday season?

Sit On It

Monday, November 5th, 2007

ch.jpg

Kids love things that are their size. Toddlers want to do things just like their older siblings or parents do. They imitate everything and it is so much for them to have their own “big kid” things in their own size. that is why I recommend a table and chair set to every parent of a toddler. Not only perfect for afternoon tea but for coloring, games, play-doh fun and for eating. My kids are sitting at their table that we bought when they were 17 months old, right now coloring in their coloring books.

We have a simple wooden table and chair set from Ikea. I have painted it white and although it has come crayon marks on it, it has held up very well and the kids love it. Now that they are almost five and are pretty darn tall, it is getting a little small for them though.

Since we have twins we love anything with a “two by two” theme and this Noah’s Arc table and chair set fits the bill. It is much more expensive then the wooden one from Ikea at $125.99. but this set is colorful and fun.

Maybe this Little Tykes table set is better for you. This one is made of durable plastic and is great for outdoor use as well. This is a round table that comes with two chairs and is $45.95. The same set comes in red and blue but is $5.00 more, I don’t know why either.

These tables are a great gift for toddlers and up and can easily fit into a bedroom, playroom or kitchen. Perfect for the holiday season!

Diapering Caddy

Friday, October 12th, 2007

cady.jpg

I am not a huge fan of high priced online retailers. Especially high priced kiddy items that I know I can find cheaper elsewhere. I, like many moms, cannot afford nor do not want to spend $100 on one outfit for my children, unless they can wear it for at least four years!

So I hesitated to even check out thesillywagon.com, but I did, just to check to see if they had something interesting and affordable for my readers. I am nice like that.
I came across this item, the Piggy Story Carry All Caddy. Lined with nylon waterproof material, the Carry-All-Caddy is perfect for outdoor or indoor use. They have suggestions for use such as gardening, for beach toys or just to carry toys around.

What first came to mind when I saw this item, that although it would be great for kids, I want it for myself. I think this would be perfect to tote around all the diapering stuff I will need when the baby comes. I have a two story home, so instead of carrying the baby up and down the stairs many, many times a day I thought I would keep a supply of diapers, wipes, cotton balls and creams downstairs and make my life slightly easier.

With a large inner compartment and six additional pockets it would be perfect for a diapering caddy, don’t you think? It would also be prefect to keep everything organized on the changing table itself. Cute and functional. I will have to order one ( or two!) before the baby arrives!

Arts and Crafts For Toddlers

Monday, October 8th, 2007

cray.jpg

I just went to a first birthday party for my friend’s daughter. I struggled with what to buy her because, as a mom of four year olds, I forgot what toys or items one year olds like and are into. Of course a week after the birthday party I saw a commercial for these Crayola Beginnings products.

They wouldn’t be perfect for a twelve month old but in a couple of months she would love them. My husband and I believe in exposing children, no matter how young, to art and let them experiment. My children LOVE arts & crafts and can put foam stickers on paper, color or string beads on ribbon for hours. Crayola beginnings is a new line of creative products designed just for toddlers and has markers and crayons made for younger children with small hands.

First Marks won’t dry out and can be reactivated by simply dabbing them on a piece of paper several times, no caps to lose. They also have large coloring books that offer large coloring surfaces, since young children make large lines and broad, circular scribbles.
First beginnings also has triangular shaped crayons that are easier to grasp and will not roll off the table!

These would be great for children 18 months and up and especially younger siblings who want to color like their older siblings. No need for sharing.

Ball Pit

Friday, October 5th, 2007

ball.jpg

Kids LOVE balls and they love ball pits. Children will spend hours in ball pits and I although i can see how much fun it can be, I get very grossed out by public ball pits. The drooling all over the balls, the dirty diapers and sick, sneezy kids make for a germ pit.
So I decided when my kids were about 18 months to buy a ball pit for our house.

This ball pit has four see- thru mesh panels for ventilation and so you can see your kids and they can see you. It has two roll down shades and even comes with a carrying bag. It pops up into shape in seconds. It includes 100 balls and you can order 100 more for $19.95.
This ball pit makes for a great tent or hideaway without any balls and is for kids of all ages. It is $59.95.
You can also find other toy reviews here.

Unique Baby Rattle

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Looking for a cute baby gift for that newborn who has everything? We all know infants nowadays that have everything! These birthstone rattle would be perfect. These unusual birthstone rattles are handmade from alder wood and include a semi-precious stone which corresponds to baby’s astrological sign.

rattle.jpg
They are made from alder wood treated with linseed oil. They look more like works of art then a baby toy. This would be perfect for a baby keepsake. It is my new go to gift for baby showers.

Nesting Cups

Friday, September 21st, 2007

cup.jpg

My children LOVED nesting cups. They are brightly colored, perfect for the bath, the sandbox or the living room floor. They played with them for years and still use them as “cups” in their play kitchen. I love toys that are played differently in different stages of their development.

You can buy them at any toy store but I like the ones who have a lot of cups as opposed to three or four cups. Here is an article on how to play with nesting cups for various ages.

I would also recommend nesting and stacking blocks. Ours were brightly colored and have each side with have numbers, letters, a puzzle and shapes. These stacked really high and my kdis would love to push them over after I stacked them.

Really, these are quality toys that are inexpensive and that any child would love.

Toys for the Stroller or Car Seat

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Trying to keep babies quiet in the car or the stroller can be a challenge. You don’t want to bring too many things with you and you don’t want the baby to throw something from the stroller that you will never find again.

One of my favorite toy makers, Manhattan Toys, has a dozen ideas for your child’s stroller, or car seat.
mirr.jpg
You can put a mirror on the back of the seat for baby to look at himself or even some black, white and red picture cards.
ratt.jpg
There are rattle spin toys for the stroller or fun wrap around toys for the car seat with a rattle, mirror and squeaker.

Manhattan toys have won various awards and are safe as much as they are fun. They have developmental toys for all ages and offer more than 500 exclusive, original product designs.

Finger Puppets

Monday, September 10th, 2007

pupp.jpg

With all of these toy recalls, I am looking for something to buy my kids, um I don’t know, that don’t make them sick. This finger puppet set is just the right thing.
My kids love finger puppets. When they were small they loved just having them on their fingers, now they love to put on puppet shows behind the couch with them. That shows that this toy grows with your child, which I love.
This set comes with a finger puppet stage and six puppets. Bonus points that it is so cute.
