More recalls for you:

09233

Various retailers have recalled approximately 22,500 Bugaboo Bee Strollers. One or both sides of the brakes can fail, causing a stroller to unexpectedly roll away on an incline. Obviously, this can pose a risk of injury to the child.

Bugaboo Bee strollers have item code 580210 on a label on the back of the seat and item code 50100 on a label on the plastic support under the seat. The strollers were sold in blue, dark khaki, pink, red, yellow, and black. “bugaboo® bee” is printed on the left side of the seat. They were sold at juvenile product retailers nationwide and on various Web sites from August 2007 through April 2009 for about $530.

Great Summer Must Have Products For Kids

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Summer vacation is 9 days away for our kids and we plan on visiting our new state’s beaches this summer. We love the beach, the sun and the sand as much as our kids do. There are some challenges with a baby on the beach, but we found some new products that are great for the beach and for our family.

Surfer’s Secrets was invented by two moms and a a dermatologist and it removes the moisture between your child’s skin and the sand, allowing you to just wipe away the sand easily without using water! I couldn’t believe how easy this was. No more waiting for the showers to be free to rinse off my kids, and ourselves. No more trying to rub off the sand with towels leaving my kid’s skin irratated, and best yet, no more sand all over my car!
Surfers Secrets is Talc free and has grape seed oil and aloe vera in it to help sun exposed skin. Go try some and I know it will be a staple in your beach bag like it is in mine!

compactshadecatpage
The one thing I hate about all the strollers I have had, it that when the baby is reclined, the shade never fully covers the baby. I am forced to put a blanket over the baby to shade him from the sun but it is hot! Protect-a-Bub is a great sun shade that protects baby from the sun’s harmful rays with its 50 SPF protection!
Easy to use, this shade covers baby’s entire body. No more blankets that fall off or making sure you have a shady spot to park under. These great shades will fit any size stroller you have. Protect-a bub also offers shades for car seats. Also check out their blankets, swimwear and hats!

These are terrific products for all of your family’s fun in the sun!

What Do You Need In A Stroller?

Monday, January 5th, 2009

I am a stroller fanatic. I have had A LOT of strollers come through this house. If I haven’t owned them, I have tried them out in the store and checked them out online. You never want to go cheap with a stroller you will be using it very often. If you buy the right stroller one is all you will need.
If you are a stroller novice you will want to read this article, or if you have a pregnant friend or family member pass it along. This is a great what you need in a stroller.

What you need for a newborn:
Because your baby can’t sit up yet, a fully reclining stroller is best, or if you want buy a stroller with a travel system (A car seat, stroller and base). A bare frame that will support your infant car seat.
I love the infant head/neck insert some stroller come with but you can always buy that separately if your stoller doesn’t have one.

What you need for a long term stroller:
A big canopy is a must! To protect your baby from sunlight or weather.
Easy to open and fold Look for something you can do with one hand so you can do it while holding your baby.
Adjustable handlebars are a great feature in a stoller. It is a must have on my list because my husband is very tall and most strollers are uncomfortable for him to push.

Make sure you look for a stroller that meets the American Society Testing and Materials and that is certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. Test drive a stroller before you purchase it, wheel it around the store, test the brakes and make sure it will fit in your trunk.
Lastly you can check out Consumer Reports for stroller safety.

Join The Revolution

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I have tried many strollers in my years as a parent. Some were good, some were terrible and very few were excellent. Everyone wants something different in a stroller and I have found one stroller that has what every parent needs - even if they don’t know they need it!

The BOB Revolution Stroller is revolutionary in strollers. It has so many awesome features, I am not sure where to start. It has a front wheel that rotates for improved maneuverability and handling or locks out for safer running or off-road use. Off-roading or off-sidewalking in this stroller is amazing. it makes going to fairs, carnivals even a boardwalk a breeze!
The revolving 12-inch front wheel takes the place of the usual fixed wheel, which makes other strollers so difficult to maneuver and turn corners, moms you know what I am talking about.
This state-of-the-art stroller also features superior suspension, with two settings for smaller and larger children. It is not super heavy like other bulky strollers (I am looking at you Graco!) and weighs only 22.6 pounds.

It didn’t take up too much room in my compact SUV because it folds in two different places and is really compact. I think it will fit in a car trunk just as easy. My favorite thing about the BOB Revolution Stroller is the extra large sunshade, no sun would be found in my child’s face in this stroller!
It is also safe because the stroller comes with a five point harness, plus it comes in a double, perfect for my twins.

I thought this stroller was only for smaller babies but the revolution holds kids up to 70 lbs. I could put one of my five year old twins in this!
It was also easy for my husband to assemble, which is a huge plus in our book.
I thought the storage under the seat could have been bigger, but it is not a bad size.

This stroller is made for everyone, but does not come cheap. The price does reflect the great quality though. The revolution or any of their other great strollers are perfect for first time parents, city dwellers, joggers and well, everyone.
Now I am off to add the Revolution to my Christmas wish list.

Accessorize Your Ride

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

I am always on the lookout for a unique, fun baby gift. What do you give a baby that has everything? What about a Babie Plate.

BabiePlates are the trendy Swedish baby name license plate and the next smash hit baby accessory product from Sweden. These have been seen in Parents, Kiwi and American baby magazines. We were lucky enough to get one for baby K and it is adorable. You can personalize your BabiePlate with a name or a phrase and birth date for your baby stroller.
BabiePlates are made of aluminum with reflector foil, which gives a large, clear and original reflection. It measures 25 x 7.5 cm and you mount it using plastic straps that are included can attach to all models of baby strollers.
When your child is too old for a stroller you can use it for a child’s room or bed.

Perfect for a new baby gift, christening or just to identify your stroller in a crowd, this is a great idea!

Eco-Friendly Strollers

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Finding the perfect stroller is a tough job, just ask any mom. You want it to be sturdy, look nice and have great features. Baby Planet is a fabulous company that not only makes great looking strollers, but it gives back by recycling your stroller once you and your children are done using it. If you feel there is still life left in your stroller, they will help you donate it to a family in need.
If your Baby Planet product is no longer road worthy or functional, they will show you how you can recycle it and keep your item out of a land fill! How amazing is that?
prod_im_101102-cb_34left.jpg

Not to mention, they do make a great stroller. The Solo Sport lightweight stroller is perfectly balanced within a lightweight aluminum and ultra compact frame. It is a dream to push and has great features like: a comfort-padded reclining seat, 5 point harness with comfort covers, adjustable leg support and a 2-position adult cup holder. The basket underneath could be a little bigger, but I have wanted a bigger basket on every stroller I have ever owned. It also folds so easily and compact.

The Baby Planet Max Pro Travel System is a stylish, simple, and affordable stroller that accepts most infant car seats on the market today, then converts to seated stroller with a 5-point harness.

Best All Terrain Stroller

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

collection_indie_over.jpg

If diaper bags are the new designer handbags then strollers are the new, hottest cars. Moms no longer are willing to carry around an oversized, pastel diaper bag, and we don’t want a bulky, heavy, ugly stroller. Strollers are not just for the babies that ride in them anymore, if you are not aware of this fact, just look around the playground or mall. Strollers are getting lighter, faster and are mush easier to use.
Now I have found the Cadillac of all strollers, the Bumbleride.

I had the pleasure to try out the new Indie all-terrain stroller that is lighter and more compact than its cousin the Bumbleride Rocket is. I thought this stroller would be bulky and heavy and that could not be farther from the truth. The Indie is only 20 lbs, one of the lighter all terrain strollers, so it was perfect for everyday use, and use it every day we did!
We took this stroller everywhere, to the mall, to a Earth Day fair, for long walks around our neighborhood and we even circled the house in an effort to get our baby to sleep! This stroller handled better then any other stroller I have ever used including the overhyped Peg Perego and my beloved old Maclaren.
245_4531.JPG
Just chillin’ in my awesome stroller

The aluminum frame, great seat padding and 12″ air filled tires make the ride smooth and easy to maneuver on our cracked sidewalks as well as off road. What takes a stroller from “okay” to “amazing” is the features and the Bumbleride is full of them. The Indie comes with: a padded handlebar to hang toys from, a footmuff to keep the little one warm, dual ratcheting canopy to keep sun off of the baby, adjustable handle height (a must for my 6 foot 2 inch husband), cup holder and oversized basket. The brake is easy to use and the Indie folds up so compact, perfect for any trunk space or storage area! The seat even reclines completely flat or in three other angles.

Check out their web site for all the amazing color choices, and styles of strollers. What makes their web site so special is that it has great features like a gallery and a faq section, but also a great video showing you how easy it is to use the stroller and all of its features.

I have had many strollers in my five years of being a mother and this by far is the best. I have never received compliments on my stroller before using the Indie but we had many people comment on it and ask what type it was and where they can get one. I should get a commission!
Overall, I could not recommend this stroller enough, I loved it, my husband loved it, our baby loved it and so did the many strangers on our outings. I can never go back to any old stroller now! Go Bumbleride!

All Terrain Strollers

Monday, February 18th, 2008

stroller.jpg

It seems like I see more and more all terrain strollers out every day. I often wonder what makes a stroller all terrain and who really would need one. Then I remember the time we took our Maclaren out in the woods to an animal refuge and how hard it was to maneuver off the road and go on bridges and I realized there is a market for these types of strollers.

They are easy to push because they have larger wheels then regular strollers. This makes it easier to “off road it” with the baby. They are perfect for boardwalks, gravel paths, beaches or hiking paths. Some even can hold heavier children then regular strollers. That makes them more economical because you can use them longer. A few are compatible with infant car seats too!

They do have a few down sides though. Most all terrains are for babies six months and up so you cannot use them for infants. They also are bulky and depending what kind of car you have, you may have to take the front wheel off to get it into your trunk. You also will have to fill the tires once they go flat. They also look like jogging strollers but are not made for that, so check with the company web site before you purchase one.
If you are still considering an all terrain stroller here are some brands to look at:

Hip, Modern Stroller

Friday, February 8th, 2008

silver-cross-main07.jpg

How many new strollers can come out a year? It seems like every time I turn around I see a new “it” stroller. I guess even in motherhood you can never keep up! This new stroller from Silver Cross is no exception. It is stylish and perfect for infants all the way through toddlerhood.

The Dazzle is sleek and modern, perfect for urban moms. It is ultra lightweight at a little over fifteen pounds, has ergonomic comfort grip handles, single handed folding system (which is SO important) and a hidden shopping basket. It comes in various colors like black, neon pink, tangerine or blue.
At $299.00 it is pricey for not a lot of bells and whistles, but if you are trying to be in the “cool mom crowd” maybe you can buy your way in with this.

Stokke Stroller Recalls

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

stroll.jpg

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of about 2,000 Stokke Xplory Baby Strollers. A bolt that attaches each front wheel to the stroller can loosen, causing one of the front wheels to fall off, posing a fall hazard to young children. There has been 14 reports in the United States of one of the front wheels falling off, including one incident where a child toppled out of the stroller. There were also 244 reports outside of the United States of one of the front wheels falling off.

These strollers were manufactured in China and have serial numbers between 1 and 28,097 and with grey handles. The serial number is located under the foot plate. Strollers with white handles are not included in this recall. These were sold from September 2003 through December 2006 for about $770. Parents should stop using the strollers immediately and contact Stokke to arrange for a free replacement of the front wheels.

You can contact Stokke toll-free at (877) 978-6553 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.stokkeusa.com

The Bee’s Knees

Friday, November 30th, 2007

stroll.gif

Every mom knows about the stroller struggles. The one you bought is too heavy/doesn’t fit well in your trunk/is too small/has no storage room. It is never exactly what you want. I have gone through three strollers in my kid’s five years of life. The bugaboo is the newest coveted strollers on the market and their newest model, the Bee, may be the best one yet.

This stroller is the most compact of the Bugaboo line. It has a reversible seat to face the child to you or away, it also has locking swivel wheels and 4-wheel independent suspension. That makes it easy to maneuver through doorways and small spaces like in department stores! The wheels are also easy to stroll right onto the beach with!
The back goes down to 4 different positions and it has height-adjustable handlebars for tall people, like my husband.

The Bug fits Graco and Peg Perego car seats. It also comes with chassis/seat, under seat bag, rain cover, sun canopy & 2-year warranty. The canopy is water repellent and all the fabrics are machine washable.
There are a couple of things I do not like about this stroller though. I think the weight restrictions limit the length of use of the stroller, it is only for kids up to 37lbs. It doesn’t have a cup holder (you can buy one for $24.99) and it also does not have a tray for the baby, which is my complaint about my Maclaren stroller.

This stroller will not come cheap, it is $529.00. Many bugaboo parents are total converts though, so I guess it is worth the cost.

Double Stroller

Monday, October 29th, 2007

str.jpg

Many women are waiting longer to have kids. In turn sometimes they have kids quickly after each other. Irish twins as they are called. Maybe you just want to have kids that are close in age. When you have kids that are so close in age what else can you get but a double stroller for them?
Now there is something new.

Phil and Ted’s Sports buggy double kit. You have a sports Buggy for the first baby then you are expecting another, well just buy an extra seat and clip it on for the second baby!
With this second seat, the Sport Buggy offers four carry positions: newborn (lying flat), toddler (upright seat and recline for resting), toddler and baby (toddler on top and second newborn lying flat), and two toddlers (both riding in line). It also hold a great deal of weight, the maximum load single position is 55 lbs, the single & toddler is a total of 88 lbs.

The sports buggy comes in orange or charcoal. The buggy is $400 and the kit is $95. Perfect for a growing family!

Toys for the Stroller or Car Seat

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Trying to keep babies quiet in the car or the stroller can be a challenge. You don’t want to bring too many things with you and you don’t want the baby to throw something from the stroller that you will never find again.

One of my favorite toy makers, Manhattan Toys, has a dozen ideas for your child’s stroller, or car seat.
mirr.jpg
You can put a mirror on the back of the seat for baby to look at himself or even some black, white and red picture cards.
ratt.jpg
There are rattle spin toys for the stroller or fun wrap around toys for the car seat with a rattle, mirror and squeaker.

Manhattan toys have won various awards and are safe as much as they are fun. They have developmental toys for all ages and offer more than 500 exclusive, original product designs.
