Baby Toys Inspired By Nature

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

8402-item.jpg

I was ordering a gift for my nephew on Amazon the other day and I had to add something to my order to qualify for free shipping. On my travels I came across these great baby toys. Inspired by nature, Sassy Earth Brights ™ include a variety of rattles with nature themes such as Spring Bouquet, Wooden Dove, Lil’ Twig Rattle and Cherry Tree Rattle.

I purchased the Dove because I thought it was so cute. The rounded, wing-shaped opening is sized perfectly for baby’s small hand, encouraging him to grasp the dove. The bright tail feathers offer a variety of textured fabrics for baby to explore and crinkle when touched. At less then $5.00 for a wooden baby toy that can become a keepsake, I thought it was a steal too!

Shoes for a small baby are just a waste of money in my opinion. Sure they look cute but they have no function. What if I told you there was a alternative to cute shoes for your baby? Meet Jazzy Toes. The Jazzy Toes collection includes 12 unique baby sock designs, Sandals, Wingtips, Sneakers, Cowboy Boots, Loafers, and Deck Shoes for boys and Sandals, Spectators, Sneakers, Cowgirl Boots, Loafers and Mary Janes for girls.

Jazzy Toes socks come packaged in a cute little ready-to-mail gift box that’s environmentally-friendly with 6 pairs in each box. The socks come in a great variety of colors and are made in two sizes, 0-12 months and 12-24 months.
They really are adorable and although we have the sneaker set for baby K, I have to have the loafer and sandal sets too!

Bamboo Clothing For Baby

Friday, June 27th, 2008

20_small.jpg
I was lucky enough to try some bamboo clothing for baby K from Bamboosa. Bamboosa makes clothing out of bamboo fiber blended with organic cotton for everyone in your family. The material is so super soft, it is hard to tell it isn’t silk! Bamboo is also anti-bacterial, breathable and biodegradable and Bamboosa uses eco-friendly dyes and 100% recycled paper in their packaging.

Bamboosa has an adorable assortment of products for your baby. Everything is super soft, easy to wash and is perfect for baby’s skin. I love the products so much I have to order the fine jersey sleep slip for myself as well as crib sheets for my little one.

29_large.jpg

Bamboosa is a sweatshop-free company, and all its clothing is produced in a factory in Andrews, South Carolina. Why it took so long for bamboo to be a resource in making clothing, I am not sure but I will be purchasing bamboo clothing from bamboosa for my whole family. This is great for my older son who has very sensitive skin.
If you are looking for a baby gift idea, check out their great baby gift sets or purchase a gift certificate for a new mom or as a gift for anyone on your list. You will not be disappointed with bamboo clothing or Bamboosa.

Personalized Gifts for Baby

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

pinklotus_sm.jpg
I love personalized items and I especially love them for my kids. Plus, what child doesn’t love something with their name on it? This makes the company Two Tinas perfect one stop personalized shopping.
I am in love with the my name stroller blankets by Two Tinas. They have designs that are so fun and grow with your child. These are not just baby blankets. They also carry extra sweet, monogrammed blankets in great patterns. All Two Tinas blankets are custom monogrammed with baby’s initial so delivery can take a couple of weeks. Blanket size is approximately 29″x29″. They wash well and are perfect for a stroll outside, a nap or tummy time inside.

Two Tinas also carries personalized onesies. These are so soft and are made with pre-shrunk cotton with whimsical designs like a crown or angle wings on the back (my personal fav). Two Tinas are hot and they have something for every baby. Perfect for a new baby or for your own little prince or princess.

Pampers Sensitive Wipes

Monday, June 16th, 2008

wipe.jpg
While I wanted something to clean my newborn’s bottom with, I didn’t want all the alcohol that comes with many wipes on the market. I have made my own wipes, but with three kids I need a lot of wipes every day.
Pampers Sensitive Wipes seem to be the best choice for me.

I want something gentle to wipe the baby’s face with and also the occasional dirty feet of my older two, as well as clean the bottom well. I was afraid this would be too thin or delicate, but it stood up. This is also fragrence free, which is great.
We keep them by the changing stations, in the kitchen for food messes and in our diaper bag. Buy them in bulk like we do!

Ooh La La Mama

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

vintagelovessdressweb.jpg

It seems to be hard these days to find great baby and kid clothing that doesn’t have some saying that is not appropriate for kids, or is unique. I love finding great clothing for my kids but I am not willing to break the bank to do it either, especially the way my kids grow! Regular readers will also know how I love mom owned businesses. Ooh La La Mama has great clothing for kids and was created in the end of 2006 by wife and husband team, Cindy Parker and Scott Stoughton.

What makes Ohh La La Mama clothing are so unique for kids are the front and back (they use a full-color printing process that is really pretty and extends to both the front and back) real photo designs and fabulous graphics. Finally your kids can be as hip as you wish you were! Perfect for my pint size fashionistas!
My kids love the clothing as much as I do because the ply-cotton blend is soft and comfortable. My son loves his shirt because “it is a cool rock ‘n roll shirt!” my daughter loves her dress because it has a “heart on it and pretty sleeves!”. The onesies are so adorable, my baby looks so cute in it.

These are works of art not just shirts. Check out Ooh La La Mama for your own children’s clothes, a great baby shower or birthday gift for that edgy and different style. Go order some great apparal (from 3 months to size 6) and enter their photo contest for a chance to win $250 of clothing for your little one! I am off to upload our pictures today!

Beautiful Slings

Friday, June 6th, 2008

drfly_iceblue2.jpg

I have found with this new baby of mine, that he is not an easy sleeper. He is not one of those infants that you can put him down and he will just sleep. After 5-10 minutes in anything he cries. Vibrating seat? Boring. Swing? Okay for a while but then he is done. I wondered how I would ever get this baby to sleep and then I found pippalily slings.

Pippalily was started by a mom whose daughter always wanted to be worn. She couldn’t find the unique and stylish slings she wanted so she made them! These slings are pouches so they are easy to get baby in and out and there are no rings to adjust. Those rings confuse me anyway.
I love that this sling had a deeper “seat” for the baby. It makes me feel that my baby is more secure.
I wear my baby all the time at parties, to the park, it is easy for me to use, K loves it and I have my hands free for my other two kids.

The thing I love most about these slings is that all of the fabric and patterns are simply gorgeous. The silk brocade is fancy enough to wear to a wedding or any other event as well as to the playground. I have received so many compliments on my Chocolate Brown Dragon sling! I love the Morning Glory Coral sling too. I want them all!

Get one for your husband for Father’s Day! Pippalily makes great slings in a masculine camouflage print or a plain black cotton sling. Don’t know how to use a sling? Don’t worry they have instructional how-to videos online for you.
These are going to be my new gift to get for baby showers.

Play. Sleep. Love.

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

tigerblanket.jpgtigerpet.jpg

I am not a fan of most stuffed animals. My kids have a few that they are attached to and a few that they like but never play with. I hate to have things that just collect dust and are just taking up space. I have found a stuffed animal that is more though, one that is very special. Zoobie pets.

Zoobie was started by two brothers on a quest born out of a desire for innovation and a love of children. With a tag line of: Play. Sleep. Love. how can this company not be good? These are no ordinary animals, each pet is a plush toy, a soft pillow and a comfy blanket all in one!
Just detach the velcro and unzip a zipper and your stuffed animal can change into a pillow or blanket and back again. It is easy to use and safe for children.

How perfect is this for children to travel with? Instead of packing a lovie, a blanket and a pillow, you have it all in one with these soft, lovingly made zoobies. The signature faces on each animal all contain micro beads, making them extremely soft and each animal has its own definitive extra-soft-to-the-touch body texture, making for exceptionally comfy pillows. The inner blankets are made of extra soft and warm coral fleece.
Choose from a ton of different animals from either the zoo collection or the safari collection.
My only problem with this toy is that my two older children each want one of their own! This makes not only a great gift for a new baby but kids of all ages will love it too!

Great Lotion for Baby

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

lb019.jpg
I am always looking for great products that are all natural for my kids. It seems like my baby is just like his older brother and has sensitive skin. I had to use baby detergent for over two years for my older son’s laundry. I used a Johnson & Johnson lotion on my infant and he had a reaction to it an hour later. I don’t need a lotion that gives him a rash, I want one to help dry baby skin and rashes. I want something great for my children but gentle too.

I looked for something that fits that description at my Whole Foods and found Jason Earth’s Best Baby Care Calendula Extra Rich Therapy Creme and I purchased it. I really like it. It is 70% organic without the use of potentially harmful synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
It is also not greasy at all and non-staining, which is great especially if you have ever tried to get greasy stains out of baby clothing.

The calendula extract possesses anti-inflammatory properties to thoroughly hydrate and calm red or irritated skin, while Vitamin E and Organic Jojoba Oil bring the most delicate and sensitive skin the ultimate in dry skin relief. I also love the easy to use container that it comes in.
It is not cheap lotion but you won’t need to use it as often because it works so well!
Try it, I think you will like it.
Is there a lotion that you use for your kids that you love?

Make Your Own Baby Blanket

Friday, May 30th, 2008

myubby.jpg

There are many nice baby blankets on the market today. Some companies have great fabrics and colors for their blankets. I have searched around for a great blanket for my kids on more then one occasion. It has to be soft, well made and made with a great fabric. What if I told you that you could design your own blanket for your baby just the way you want it?

Myubby is a great company that produces made to order custom baby blankets! By using their blanket builder, You can choose from more than 50 unique fabric styles and color/print options, 11 poly satin edging colors or stitch options and, custom ubby personalization features and add-ons.

It is simple and so much fun to build your own blanket. First you decide if you want your blanket to be one or two sided. Then you pick your fabric and color. After that you pick what color you want your satin edging to be and which stitch style. Finally you can add an inscription up to 54 characters or a monogram and of course, the embroidery color and style.
After that the good people of myubby start making your 35″x45″ blanket and they will ship within 2-3 weeks of receipt of order. If you need it faster, they can ship it out in 6 business days for a small added fee.

I can tell you that the myubby blankets are so soft and sweet. It held up great in a washing and I know it will be my son’s favorite blanket in no time flat. Perfect for a new baby gift. Give a myubby blanket for a shower gift too, they also have gift certificates available.
So go, and make a beautiful blanket as unique as your child is.

Inside the Diaper Bag

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

tbthree.jpg

I love that the trend these days is not just towards great baby gear, but great mommy gear as well. Designers are realizing that moms are the ones carrying the big diaper bags with cartoons on it and pushing the clunky strollers and they are changing the designs, making things more stylish and trendy. Mom inventors are leading this new trend, and thank goodness for that!

Goober Baby is no stranger to this idea. Goober Baby is the inspired offspring of two moms who wanted stylish everyday items to care for new little ones. They make awesome products like the Goober tote, a tote for the dads, gift sets and changing mats. Each come in great, bold modern colors and styles, perfect for moms! I had the pleasure to review the tote bag which is a great item for smaller things that tend to ‘disappear” in the bottom of your diaper bag or purse. It is great for things that can leak like lotions or medicine. I think it is great for transporting wet or messy clothes too. Don’t just use it for the diaper bag use it for your makeup or toiletries when you travel!

The change purse is perfect for when you want to run out of the door without the big diaper bag. Just the right size for a few diapers and some wipes. Goober baby has some of the greatest things for moms that they never knew they needed!
Thank you Goober baby!

Bonnets for Breastfeeding

Friday, May 16th, 2008

moboleez_kitty.jpg

Since I am still new to breastfeeding, sometimes I find it a little difficult. Especially when I am out in public. Where do I breastfeed that is safe, and private? How do I nurse without my breastfeeding pillows? Also, how can I keep myself covered while in public? These are all commonly asked questions by other nursing mothers, I have recently discovered. When I came across the breastfeeding bonnet by MoBoleez, I knew I wanted to try it.

MoBoleez was founded by a nursing mother of two (you know how I love to support mom owned businesses!) who wanted to design something unique for the breastfeeding mom. This 70% bamboo and 30% cotton hat fits perfectly on baby’s head but has a large, floppy brim to cover mom’s breast. The hats come in pink, blue, green, cream and red, and each has a very cute designs on the top and a “hi mummy” on the brim for mom.
The hat is much softer then I thought and it held up well after a trip in the washing machine.
thmb_milky2_169.jpg
I have a cover up that I use to breastfeed in public but with warmer weather approaching, I think it would be hot for both me and K. I love the idea of this hat, it keeps the sun out of the baby’s face and gives me the privacy I want. Great idea and well executed.
Go order one today for yourself or as a great baby shower gift!

Organic for Baby

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

With my newest baby I am not looking for quantity of clothing, since we are already busting at the closets with the other two kids, but quality. I want clothing that is soft for my baby and earth friendly. A few choice pieces is great for us, as we all know how quickly babies grow out of clothing! The great people at Kate Quinn organics were nice enough to send me a few pieces of clothing for my baby and I am in love.

pt_e241.jpg
Kate Quinn organics makes stylish clothing and they are made from the finest 100% certified organic fabrics. The clothing is super soft, and made from all-natural, organically produced cotton certified by Control Union Certifications. Plus, all the clothing has been certified Fair Trade.

Surely I cannot be the only one that thinks babies look so cute in kimono tops? My son is wearing the peacock onesie right now and I love it!
They don’t just offer baby clothing, they have accessories and clothing for toddlers as well. They also offer blankets and hooded towels. If you are buying a gift and are not sure about the sizing, they now offer gift certificates.
Plus women’s clothing is coming soon! I can’t wait for that.

I love this clothing for my children and I know you will too. It washes well and holds up to a busy baby. Although, I do suggest buying a size up because my son is only two months old and almost out of the 3-6 month size onesie.

Bling for Baby

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

There are many cute things for girls these days. Of course, everyone knows it is easier to buy clothes for a girl then a boy, it just seems like there is more out there. When you find something cute, you have to stick with it because you don’t know where you will find it again! Baby Bling is one of those things.

arrived_large.jpg

Bling Baby has great * bling* items for boys. The great people at Bling Baby sent my son a cute onesie with his name in bling. It is adorable on and we love it. They also sell hats, pacifier clips and burp cloths with bling on them. I may be biased though, because I love personalized items for babies and kids. Get a shirt with your child’s name on it or their nickname.
They don’t just have items for boys though, check out all they have for girls. These shoes alone make me want to have another baby!
Go get your baby some bling!

Bathing Baby

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

pod.jpg

Washing a baby can be…challenging. I always feel like I have to hold the baby in the baby bath tub with one hand while I wash with the other. Getting more soap or a new washcloth can be difficult with one hand. I liked my baby bath tub but when I found the washPOD, I knew I had found something great.

The washPod is a new concept for newborn bathing. It is a European type of baby bath, designed to be a “secure and warm environment, similar to that inside a mother’s womb”. It is vertical as opposed to horizontal and the3 design holds the baby upright.
It is smaller then a traditional tub so it uses less water, which is terrific. The bottom is cushioned so K’s bottom was comfortably paced and he did not slip around.
He loves his bath in the washpod, especially since he is submerged more then a traditional bath so he is warmer.

The WashPOD also has cushioned handles so you can carry it even when it is filled with water, someting I could not do with our other bath, once it was filled it was too heavy and bulky to move. It also comes with stickers to help make the appropriate water level, which should be a few inches under the baby’s arm pits when immersed.

Although it did take me awhile to “learn” how to wash the baby in the POD, I really love it. It is compact, easy to store and perfect for babies 0-6 months. This will make a terrific gift for your next baby shower.
