Better Burp Cloths

Friday, February 8th, 2008

product-bubbles_coral.jpg
Babies are so cute and cuddly but kids sure can produce some gross things from their bodies! There are some things moms know they cannot live without like diapers, wipes, washcloths and burp cloths for those big messes babies can make. Some of these things are great as is, but others could use a little improving, like burp cloths, I wish I knew about the burp catcher when I had my twins, but I am not prepared for this new baby!

The burp catcher was invented by a Mom (as all great things are!) and a re a new and improved form of a burp cloth. Burp Catcher has an ingenious pocket that hangs open to catch baby’s spit up before it hits your new sweater, carpet or someone else! They come in fleece or flannel and a ton of colors and patterns to chose from.
Go pick one up for yourself or for a baby gift.
Every mother will love this!

The Greatest Shower Gift

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I turn down many things that people want me to review for various reasons, then there are some web sites that I see that I would love to review and I know how lucky I am to get the chance. The American Terry Co. is one of those web sites. Everything they have is amazing and I am now a true believer in American Terry Co.

lugg.jpg
The new baby box is enough to make me want four more babies. It comes with a generous sized terry hooded towel, toddler bib, a cloth for burps or to us as a wash cloth, an adorable rubber ducky all packed in a sweet vintage suitcase that I know I will use again and again. All of it was in the “wink” print which is perfect for those mothers who don’t know the sex of their baby. All the products are made with Turkish terry and are the most soft and absorbent 100% cotton I have felt.

They have many other gift sets choices, these beach buckets are going to be my go to gift for all the toddlers in my life, they are a perfect! If you think all they have is children’s products you would be wrong, they have colorful robes for babies, teens, men and women. They also have custom embroidery! Everyone loves a gift with their names, logo or monogram on it. Check out their web site and you will find great gift ideas for baby shower, kid’s birthdays or even pick out a plush robe for your spouse for Valentine’s Day!
Also check out their new organic line due out in February.

Swaddling Never Looked So Good!

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

There is nothing better then the sight of a cute little newborn swaddled in a blanket. My ovaries ache just thinking about it! My twins, like most babies, loved to be swaddled tightly but I was always worried about overheating. SIDS is a huge concern for any parent and overheating a baby with many layers in the winter is something you do not want to do in order to prevent SIDS.

blank.gif
The amazing people at adenandanais.com sent me a one of their swaddling blankets and I am in love. Their amazing muslin fabric blankets are like swaddling your baby in the softest gauze you can imagine. The 100% muslin cotton keeps baby warm without overheating baby like many heavier blankets can.
They are very large at 47′ x47′ so you can use it as a blanket for a toddler or double it over for swaddling a newborn. I think this would also make a great nursing cover in a pinch!
They have various patterns and color choices for boys, girls or unisex. They come in a set of four for $44.00 or in a gift pack of two for $29.95.

They offer many other items on their web site also like hooded towels, washcloths and their new dream muslin blankets. This is a perfect gift for a new mother or for a shower gift. This blanket is light enough that they are perfect for summer babies.
I can see myself using this blanket with my new little one all the time. I had better order more!

Personalized Baby Gifts

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Are you looking for great accessories for babies? Maybe you are searching for a great baby gift or something unusual to bring to a new mom and baby? Look no further. Burpbees are unique personalized gifts that any new mom or new baby would love.

burp-cloths.jpg
They make coordinating burp cloths, bibs and onesies with various ribbon embellishments. All the burp cloths are made from 100% pre-folded cotton diapers. Take my word for it, these are so soft and absorbent. Of course they are machine washable too.
They make two kinds of bibs, a drooler bib for infants that can be personalized. They are great for babies who are teething and well, drooling. They have a tie closure.
They also have larger bibs for older babies and toddlers. The ribbon bibs coordinate with burp cloth and pocket onesies designs. These are made with a velcro closure.
bibs.jpg
The 100% cotton onesies can be personalized and are short sleeved. They can be coordinated with the bibs and burp cloths. They also make custom fleece/flannel baby blankets by special order.
I also see on their information packet that they sell personalized children’s aprons and tote bags for $15.00 each but I did not see them on the site. The aprons would be perfect for my twins, they love to cook and bake with me and for that price I can afford two!

These are wonderful shower gifts, a change from plain white burp cloths and onesies. Plus all gift sets come wrapped very sweetly in ribbon with a decorative pacifier. Their prices are affordable, check out the different prices and packages.

Hair Accessories for Baby

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Are you lucky enough to have a baby with hair? I was not, my daughter was practically bald until she was two and a half years old! I tried putting barrettes and pony tails in her hair but they would always slip out. If you are a parent to a child with luxurious locks, then I have great things for your daughters hair!

hair1.jpg
Check out these felt hairclips by Etsy seller Siiri. Cute hand embroidered snowman hair clips but the cuteness doesn’t end there, she has other designs as well.

If you like felt hair clips seller mayapapaya has so many designs that are perfect for any holiday, season or ensemble. From ladybugs to gingerbread men and mushrooms to button flowers, she has it all.

Swaddle Wraps

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

bln.jpg

The nice women at Solana Babywear sent me a sample of their gorgeous swaddle blankets. They make light weight, 100% cotton fabric swaddle blankets which will become not only a must have in your household but a “don’t know what I ever did without it” wrap. Started by two women Theresa and Sunny, the blanket was made to keep babies snuggled and warm but not overheat the baby.

Swaddling is part of the 5 “S’s” for calming and getting a baby to sleep; Swaddling, Side sleeping, Sshhhh, Swinging and Sucking. Swaddling is especially important in the first weeks after your baby is born to give him the comfort of the womb and also to prevent SIDS.
The fabric of this swaddle wrap is so soft and comfortable, it is perfect for newborn baby skin. It is also very generous in size, measuring 44″ x 55″. The wrap I have is white eyelet and trimmed in a soft satin and is ideal for newborn and up, it makes a great lightweight blanket for cool night or for a stroller blanket.

The blankets come in various colors and patterns and price ranges. They have handmade limited edition blankets and affordable two packs. Check out their “how to swaddle page” for a refresher course on swaddling your baby. I know I needed this because although my husband swaddles like a pro, I didn’t retain that skill.
I have tried many blankets and swaddle wraps in my days as a mother and this one by far has been my favorite. I would recommend these wraps to any new mother.

owl.jpg
What is more cute then a kid in mittens? I remember my favorite mittens were yellow and white with Woodstock on them. It had a matching hat that I was not that found of but I loved those mittens. I love mittens for kids of all ages and there are so many cute ones out there. Plus they are SO much easier to put on children then gloves!

While scouring the internets I found these handmade mittens. These handmade owl mittens look so warm and cozy. They fit most four to six year olds. Not a fan of owls what about stop light mittens or orange monster mittens. Any little girl would love these heart throb mittens.

The Giving Tree

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

tree.jpg
My daughter took to her pacifier almost immediately after birth. L, my son, hated it and never took to it. R, though, loved it. it helped her sleep, with teething and to sooth herself when she needed it. Three years later and she still had her pacifier habit. How were we going to get it away from her we wondered. Although she only used it at bedtime at this point, she was very reluctant to give it up and we had a tough problem on our hands. You can read about how we finally got it away from her here.

In Copenhagen Denmark though, they have a great way to get those lovies, bottles and pacifiers away from children. Much like the book The Giving Tree (which is my very favorite book) children and their parents go and “give” the tree their lovies. Children go to a public park, Frederiksberg Have (Garden) and was created 300 years ago for King Frederik IV, and donate their favorite things to the tree. Hundreds, maybe thousands, pacifiers hanging by ribbon, some lovies preserved in plastic bags, others hung with care makes for a very moving sight. Some even have letters written attached to them. Children can then go visit their treasures on the tree every time they go to the park. I think that this is such a lovely ritual and idea for kids as well as their parents.

You can see pictures from the tree at this Flickr set.

Handmade Hats

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

elmo.jpg

We bring home our cute bundles of joy from the hospital and we are unaware that in a year or so they will all be Elmo freaks. I don’t know what it is about that red animal that all the kids just LOVE him? My twins were no exception, they just had to have everything with “melmo” on it.

Again, I know I will be singing the praises of Etsy, but I just love handmade, natural things and creative people. I have found a seller that can help many parents with their need of anything and everything Elmo. Check out this handmade Elmo purse. Crocheted with Red, White, Black, and Orange yarn and the eyes and nose have the 3D look. It measures 7 x7 and has a velcro closure that is easy for little hands. They also have a matching crocheted Elmo hat and shirt!

Maybe your baby is too small to dress up for Halloween but you want to do something, or maybe you don’t want to pay a ton of money for a costume for a baby. What about just a hat for the baby for Halloween? He or she could be shrek, a skeleton, big bird , a puppy or Oscar the grouch. These hats are adorable and unique for any reason, I will be buying some of these for my new baby. For $13.99 each they will not break the bank either!

Pacifier Clips

Monday, October 1st, 2007

pie.jpg
So you have the baby and the baby gear including the ever present pacifier. If your child is anything like my daughter then they cannot be away from the pacifier for more then a minute the first year of life. She needed it to sleep, to comfort her and it was like her best friend. We had many pacifiers and back ups because losing it when we were outside the home was not an option!

This pacifier clip would have been a terrific for those times. We had pacifier clips that were attached to a big, bulky animal. This clip is sleek, safe and comes in nine different colors so you can buy one that will match every outfit. At $8.00 it will not break the bank either.

Unique Baby Rattle

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Looking for a cute baby gift for that newborn who has everything? We all know infants nowadays that have everything! These birthstone rattle would be perfect. These unusual birthstone rattles are handmade from alder wood and include a semi-precious stone which corresponds to baby’s astrological sign.

rattle.jpg
They are made from alder wood treated with linseed oil. They look more like works of art then a baby toy. This would be perfect for a baby keepsake. It is my new go to gift for baby showers.

Teether

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

teeth.jpg

My son had a hard time with teething. He had the whole, low fever, pains, crying thing when he teethed. He never liked the frozen washcloth or teethers that we had. Poor kid, you feel so helpless when they are in pain like that.
I wonder if he would have liked this raZ-Bberry teether.
The bumpy texture of this teether sooths baby’s gums. Stimulating multi-textured teether, soothes while they play and is made of 100% medical grade silicone.
It comes in blue or red for $3.95 each.

Cutest Hats Around

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

It has been unseasonably cool here in NJ the last few days so it has got me thinking of fall weather. I LOVE these beanies from kangaroodle. These soft handmade hats are the cutest things I have seen. They are measure by head circumference and range from 0-6 months to 4+ years. They look very warm too.

They come as a beanie, with a rim or even with ear flaps. Could you think of anything more adorable for the cool days of fall?
