Baby Name Book Review and Giveaway!
When it came to naming my kids I wanted something fun but not too common. I didn’t want them to be known as Dave P. or Emma P. I wanted them to be the only L and R in the class. If you are looking beyond Isabella, Emma, Michael or Jacob, I have got a book for you. A Is For Atticus: Baby Names from Great Books is a new book from Hatchette publishing.
From the book description: “Baby namers today want monikers that reflect something personal. Where better to draw inspiration than the books you cherish and the characters you love? A IS FOR ATTICUS mines the classics for the best names and brings them all into one volume. ”
This is no ordinary baby name book this book provides you with not only unique names but also includes a name’s meaning, uniqueness, modern appeal, and cultural significance!
Little known fact about me: I named our cats after characters in my favorite books Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird and Phoebe from Catcher In The Rye! We also almost named L, Holden from Catcher In the Rye.
This is such a fun book that I wish I had when I was pregnant. If you are looking for a great name froma great novel or even just a name that is “out of the box” this book is a great start.
**GIVEAWAY** I have TWO books to give away!

I love baby name books! When pregnant with my last daughter, we had a terrible time coming up with a name - too many wonderful names to choose from. However, if I had the opportunity to name a girl and a boy right now, I would choose Freya and Barrett.

Oh, I love baby names! My husband loves traditional names and it’s a tug-of-war to find a name that we both like. We named our first daughter Katrina. For a girl, I like Natalie or Amber, and for boys we like Luke and a few other fairly common names. I would love a book like this for help in coming up with unique, but not too unusual of names.

Mallory is one of my favorite girl names. Unfortunately hubby dated a witch of a girl named Valerie so a name that rhymes just doesn’t work. Oh well.

I need this since my nephew borrowed mine and never returned it…..since we would eventually like to have another baby lol. My favorite name was Ryder for a boy. That would have been my sons name had my dad not died 17 days before his birth and he got named my dads nickname. I like Rylie for a girl too…..

We’re expecting baby #2 in March…a second little girl. Our top name “picks” as of right now are Kristen, Claire, Anna, and Emily. And Summer and Isabel are creeping up on the list. I’d love to take a peek at this book to get more ideas…

As someone who grew up with a super-trendy name (Jennifer in the 1970s!) the deluge of unique but ubiquitous names turns me off. I totally plan to use solid family names that fall into the traditional. Charles and Oliver for boys, Madelyn for a girl. They are all beloved family members. That way I don’t regret naming my kid the same thing as all their classmates and they don’t have to endure being one of a dozen in a given class.
