Unique Baby Rattle

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Looking for a cute baby gift for that newborn who has everything? We all know infants nowadays that have everything! These birthstone rattle would be perfect. These unusual birthstone rattles are handmade from alder wood and include a semi-precious stone which corresponds to baby’s astrological sign.

rattle.jpg
They are made from alder wood treated with linseed oil. They look more like works of art then a baby toy. This would be perfect for a baby keepsake. It is my new go to gift for baby showers.

Baby Care Products

ave.gif

There are so many baby lotions, shampoos and creams on the market it is hard to find one that is right for your baby. I never liked anything that was overly perfumed or heavy. the one brand I found myself keep returning to was Aveeno Baby.

Aveeno baby is tear free and gentle. The baby wash and shampoo rinses clean and is made with natural oat extract. They make a creamy wash for dry skin or eczema which I have used for my daughter’s dry skin patches. My favorite of all these products is the soothing bath treatment which is made with natural colloidal oatmeal. I have used this for my kid’s diaper rash, bug bites or rashes and it works.

Changing Pad

pad.jpg

The Patemm Pad is perfect for when a diaper bag is too much to handle. A large, round diaper changing pad with pockets to store diapers, wipes, creams and spare clothes. A must when you don’t need to lug around a ton of bottles and other garbage. It’s so easy to fold, carry and generously sized. If your squirmy baby wiggles, she will stay on the round pad.

They come in different sizes small with no pockets to large with pockets and in different fabrics. It is a unique and different idea that every mother would love.

Nesting Cups

Friday, September 21st, 2007

cup.jpg

My children LOVED nesting cups. They are brightly colored, perfect for the bath, the sandbox or the living room floor. They played with them for years and still use them as “cups” in their play kitchen. I love toys that are played differently in different stages of their development.

You can buy them at any toy store but I like the ones who have a lot of cups as opposed to three or four cups. Here is an article on how to play with nesting cups for various ages.

I would also recommend nesting and stacking blocks. Ours were brightly colored and have each side with have numbers, letters, a puzzle and shapes. These stacked really high and my kdis would love to push them over after I stacked them.

Really, these are quality toys that are inexpensive and that any child would love.

Does your Child Wander Away From You?

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

bug.jpg
I am pretty good about not taking my eyes off of my kids in public places but with twins it is hard to watch them both. I dress them in the same color shirt when I know we are going to a crowded place like an amusement park, fair or park. I have had a child “missing” for a minute and it has scared me beyond words.

The Giggle Bug Toddler Tracker is designed to help you find a toddler or young child who is hiding or who walks away from you. Clip the Giggle Bug to your child’s clothing, if your child wanders away, just press the button on the fob. The bug will then emit a loud, kid-friendly “beep” until your child is found and you push the button on the unit to reset.

This is made for children 18 months to 6 years old. It can be used up to 70-100 feet inside and 100+ feet outside. It ios $19.99 and comes in red or blue. I think it is a great idea.

Teether

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

teeth.jpg

My son had a hard time with teething. He had the whole, low fever, pains, crying thing when he teethed. He never liked the frozen washcloth or teethers that we had. Poor kid, you feel so helpless when they are in pain like that.
I wonder if he would have liked this raZ-Bberry teether.
The bumpy texture of this teether sooths baby’s gums. Stimulating multi-textured teether, soothes while they play and is made of 100% medical grade silicone.
It comes in blue or red for $3.95 each.

Toys for the Stroller or Car Seat

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Trying to keep babies quiet in the car or the stroller can be a challenge. You don’t want to bring too many things with you and you don’t want the baby to throw something from the stroller that you will never find again.

One of my favorite toy makers, Manhattan Toys, has a dozen ideas for your child’s stroller, or car seat.
mirr.jpg
You can put a mirror on the back of the seat for baby to look at himself or even some black, white and red picture cards.
ratt.jpg
There are rattle spin toys for the stroller or fun wrap around toys for the car seat with a rattle, mirror and squeaker.

Manhattan toys have won various awards and are safe as much as they are fun. They have developmental toys for all ages and offer more than 500 exclusive, original product designs.

Costumes For Baby

Friday, September 14th, 2007

My kids have been talking about what they want to be for Halloween since November 1st. We have gone back and forth on what costume they have to have while I am mouring the loss of dressing them up in whatever I wanted.

If you have a small child then you are still in luck, and there are some adorable costumes for babies out there. Lets start with animals.
pig.jpg
What about a little piggy for your little piggy? This monkey costume is adorable and I would buy it just because it comes with a banana in the pocket! How cute! It is fleece though so it is not for our friends in the warmer states.
bat.jpg
How about a bat? This costume even comes with mittens and slippers.

OK, now lets move on to less traditional costumes. This smarties costume is for 3-9 month olds.
hotdog.jpg
A baby hot dog is both warm and adorable.
Lastly what about the cutest fish in the sea for your little girl.

As for me I am still trying to talk my son into dressing up as Mickey Mouse because his sister is going to be Minnie. Mickey is losing out big time to the Hulk though. I mean what is the fun of twins if you can’t dress them in theme costumes for Halloween?!

Night Time Music

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

music.jpg

When I was pregnant with the twins, I would play classical music to my stomach every night at bedtime. When they were born the same thing, I played classical music for them when it was bedtime. It was our routine. I just wish I had known about www.johnhinson.com then.

John Hinson is a husband, father of three kids and a pianist. His song compositions are so beautiful and perfect for calming children down, listening to while doing homework, bedtime, in the car or a dinner party.
He wrote these songs for his children and you can tell, they are made with love. Some classical music I play really gets loud and heavy but this is perfect calm music for the whole family to enjoy.
You can purchase “John Hinson - “A Still Moment” on his web site, or check him out in itunes and buy it there. His CD consists of 15 great songs but my favorite is “circles”.
This would be a perfect Christmas gift for everyone on your list or a perfect baby gift for a baby shower or a new baby arrival. Go check out his site, it has many songs to listen to so you don’t have to just take my word on it.

Little Firefighter

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

When I was pregnant my mother in law knit the babies each a sweater and hat. It is one of my favorite gifts to date. I love handmade things.
When I came across these handmade booties on Etsy (my favorite online shop!) I had to figure out who I can buy them for!
booties.jpg

They are handmade firefighter booties for babies 0-6 months. They are made with soft acrylic yarn that does not shrink or fade with washing. They also can be made in various colors. You can buy a couple because at $8.00 each they are affordable.
She also makes mary jane booties (I LOVE!) and high top sneaker booties. These are so cute they make you want to have another baby!
