Temporal Thermometer

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I was not so much a nervous mother when I brought my babies home from the hospital, I had been around babies all of my life and I pretty much knew what to do and how to do it. A couple of things scared the bejesus out of me: giving the babies a bath and taking a temperature rectally.

My mother and mother in law helped with the bathes and eventually I wasn’t so scared and I could finally actually put the baby into the bathtub instead of sponge bathing him/her on the bed. When it came time to do a rectal temperature taking? I was a wreck. I was nervous, am I doing it right, how far does it go in, how long does it stay in?
When I went to the doctor’s office that day I realized I did it all wrong and I vowed to never do it again.
ther.jpg
Instead I bough this temporal thermometer. My doctor’s office uses it and it always came in very close if not exact to what the rectal thermometer said.
You run it along the child’s head starting in the middle of the forehead down to the temple. It takes seconds to read and give you a temperature. Perfect for kids who do not know how to hold a thermometer under their tongue and much more accurate then placing a thermometer under the arm.
It is non evasive and can be used on a sleeping baby, which I have done many, many times. You don’t need probe covers, and you don’t have to worry about cleaning it if your child has an ear infection or is sick.

When I purchased this, it was three times as much as they are selling for now, and they were not easy to get either. We use it for the entire family. It was one of my best purchases as a mother.

Coolest Televisions on the Block

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

We don’t have televisions in our children’s rooms, but if (when?) we do I want these televisions.

truck.jpg

They are adorable for younger kids as well as older kids. These 10″ LCD televisions come in many varieties including, a fire engine, giraffe, frog and basketball. The animals are plush and all come with a matching remote control.

If you have a TV in your room why not make it fun and not just be the typical black box on a dresser.

Trays For Kids

Monday, May 28th, 2007

It was hard for me to find the right plates when my kids were old enough to eat by themselves in a high chair. I went to storytime at the pottery barn kids by my house and I found these cafeteria style trays.

tray.jpg
They are great for kids just learning to eat from a plate and my kids still love them now. They can have different food in different compartments which my kids like and I use one compartment as a dip station for ketchup, yogurt or dressing, depending what they are eating.

They are melamine and are dishwasher safe but not microwave safe which is why I have mixed feelings about melamine. It is durable for outdoor eating, it does not stain and it comes in four different colors, and they have bowls sold separately also.

These trays are great, and I am sure your kids will love them as much as you do.

That is How I Roll

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

I love cute shirts for children with funny sayings on them. They crack me up, so when I saw this shirt from theretrobaby.com, I knew what I was buying for my next pregnant friend.

stroller_tee.jpg

These shirts are 100% cotton and have cute sayings on them like “Nobody puts bbay in the corner” or “Babies are the new black”. They have clothes for infants and toddlers and even some things for the parents.

Hip for the newest hipster in your home.

Amazing Chairs

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I am always looking for unique and cute things for my kid’s room. I am not a pink/blue cars/butterfly room kind of mom, I like to decorate their rooms with things that I know they will like for years and that is not a cookie cutter little girl/boy room.

banquette_shark_310.jpg
I love this chair. I dare not show it to my kids because I know they will each want one. I have no idea how much they cost, because the site says “price available upon request” and that scares me.

The chair comes in seven different styles and is perfect for a girl or a boy, baby or a older child. Maybe I will buy one for each of my kids, I know they won’t come out of their rooms for days! That is worth its weight in gold.

Oh and if you are brave enough to find out the price of these chairs, let me know!

These are perfect for protecting babies eyes and the strap around the head doesn’t let teh fglasses fall off or pulled off my baby.
Well, I can’t guarntee they still won’t try to pull it off!

We should protect a child’s eyes like we protect ours.

Laugh & learn Phone

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

There are two things all babies love: remote controls and phones. My twins were no different. I tried to distract them from my phones by purchasing them play phones, it didn’t work, but they did love them.

Laugh & Learn Phone is a cute substitute for your own phone. It teaches alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes and plays various songs. It has a large display screen and is easy for little hands to hold. It is for babies 6-36 months. My four year olds still play with the phone at their younger cousin’s house.

My one complaint is one I have with many other toys for kids. It has no volume control. While it is not extremely loud, it is a little loud to hold up to little ears. I do what ever I do with any toy that is too loud, I put tape over the speaker because I like my sanity.

Diaper Dudes

Friday, May 18th, 2007

fd7_179440_w.jpg

At first glance you might think this is a typical messenger bag, but it has a double duty, it is a diaper bag for dudes.

This bag has lots of compartments for diapers, wipes, cell phones and keys. It is cool looking for that dad who is just not comfortable with carrying a pooh diaper bag. It can hang over his shoulder, or on the stroller.
It comes in four colors, camo, black, gray and navy.

I don’t think it is just for dads either, I would carry this bag.
When the baby gets older, it can go to being just a plain old messenger bag.

Baby Leg Warmers

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

I wanted to potty train my kids in the summer for obvious reasons, I knew there were going to be accidents and I figured the less clothes they had on the better.
Of course, they were not ready to train in the summer but as soon as it turned cold and grey here in New Jersey the kids were all ready and able to learn to use the potty.
I wanted to keep them warm but not sweat me out of the house at the same time. I bought the kids these baby leg warmers.
ci_263.gif
Not only are they adorable but they kept my children’s legs warm and I didn’t have to pull any pants down in our rush to get onto the potty.

After they were potty trained they worked very well with all of my daughter’s skirts and we even did a little flashdancer tribute and put them on over some stretch pants.

They are a good idea for babies learning to crawl also, no more bruised knees!

Teeter Totter

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Having something to do everyday in the summer is not an easy task. I love to have toys in the backyard, but the big toys ruin the grass, there is no place to store it in the winter time and they take up a lot of room.

I love this teeter totter from Step 2. totter.jpg
It has handles to hold onto, and can hold children up to 40 pounds each. It cleans easily and can be used to inside or in a playroom.

This was a great toy for my twins, and I think it would be a great toy for a grandparent’s home.

Bath Seats

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

seat.jpgOnce your child can sit up by themselves, that is all they want to do. It is not really a problem except when it comes to bath time. You want your child to be able to sit upright in the bath and to play with toys, splash make sure your shirt is soaking wet, but you want them safe and every parent knows how difficult it is to hold onto a slippery baby.

These bath seats are great. It allowed us to bath our twins together safely. They attach to the bottom of the tup by suction cups. They have a non- slip seat that is not too rough for baby’s bottom.
The chair can move around so you can wash all of those hard to reach nooks and crannys. It is a little tricky “loading” the baby into and out of, I kind of wish the front had a door on it, but other then that, we loved these seats and I always buy it for a baby shower gift.

Don’t forget to go over to my other blog and enter to win one of five pro memberships to greetingflix.com!

Disposable Cups

Monday, May 14th, 2007

cup.gif
When you have a toddler and you are on the go, moms know that things get lost easily. Toddler throw their pacifiers, toys, socks, anything and everything that you give them.

I lost many a sippy cup this way especially because with my twins when one through something so did the other. Sippy cups are expensive, so I was thrilled when they started making take & toss sippy cups.

They are sturdy enough not to squish in toddler’s hands and come in different characters, but you are not worried when does not make it home with you. They have some with straws for bigger kids and sippy lids for the younger set.
I used these when when went to Disney World and it was perfect for the beach, my in-laws house or at the playground.
Now more trying to angle something into the sippy lid to clean it all out, now if it gets gross just toss it!

I highly recommend these cups.
