Evolving from its beginnings as Earth Organic Baby Basics, Kate Quinn Organics was launched in July 2006. Featuring stylish apparel made from the finest 100% certified organic fabrics, Kate Quinn Organics strives to care for the earth and its community without sacrificing fun and style.

“I wanted to create a line that encompassed all the wishes and dreams of new parents: the softest, most natural materials to surround your baby, the highest quality design and construction, and most importantly, the hope of a cleaner, kinder earth, ” says the owner Kate Quinn.

The classic, clean designs and ultra soft fabrics generated a great deal of interest and excitement from parents who shared Kate’s concern for the earth and vision for clothing their babies. The response was so positive that a short year later, what was once a line of baby basics had expanded to include stylish coordinates, additional colors, and larger sized pieces for little kids.

Above is Kimono Dress. This precious dress is about knee length and made from our super soft original organic cotton rib and accented with Chocolate trim.

InStep Safari Swivel Double Stroller

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Double StrollerIf you have more than one small child and you ever plan on leaving the house….a good stroller will come in handy. I myself have two little ones so I opted for a good double stroller that I could use on walks, jaunts to the mall, jogging, etc. This is the one I got.

The InStep Safari swivel double stroller. This luxurious swivel-wheeled stroller for two is the industry benchmark. For both parents and children the safety and maneuverability of this item in stroller OR jogger mode is unmatched. This go-anywhere, do-anything stroller has loads of storage. Includes removable padded seat, under the seat storage basket, quick release wheels, padded push bar, canopy viewing window, and fabric in rear for sun protection.

It was actually very easy to put together and it rides like a dream. The only complaint I have is that is a bit hard to squeexe through some doorways with this stroller and if you have a small car forget it. But if you have a big vehicle like and SUV then this woul dbe a nice stroller for you.

WubbaNubs Infant Pacifiers

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

WubbaNubs Frog PacifierNothing will make a new parent want to pull out her hair quicker than a pacifier that keeps falling out of the baby’s mouth. Taping it in just doesn’t sound like a grand idea and neither just standing over the baby 24/7 to hold it in. All three of my babies used a pacifier at some point and I wish I had one of these! Enter WubbaNubs!

These pacifiers are “hospital grade” pacifiers attached to a plush animal. It is the animal, I am guessing that keeps the pacifier in place. The WubbaNub is designed to keep the pacifier in a convenient place on baby without cords or clips. Finally, no more waking up several times in the night to put the pacifier back in your baby’s mouth! The soft plush brings soothing comfort and security; and the pacifier is a Soothie brand pacifier that is made out of Latex-free medical grade Silicone.

For babies from full term up to 6 months. Surface wash and air dry. The Wubbanub conforms to the ASTM F963-96a safety code requirements and is baby safe. Sounds like a lifesaver!

Also available are a red dog, green frog, yellow duck, and a pink horse.

tubbly hippo Bath ToyIf your baby is anything like mine then I do not have to tell you how they love bath time. Whereas this may be a wind down time for moms when they take a bath, babies get energized by bath time…it is great fun. I am always on the lookout for fun bath toys for my little son and this particular product seems like a winner.

Just pour your bubble bath into Tubbly the Hippo’s trunk and watch tons of bubbles form. Cool!

There is also an elephant cover too.

Toy of the Year

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

TMX Elmo Toy of the YearFisher-Price had a pretty good showing at this year’s Toy of the Year (T.O.T.Y.) Awards. I guess this is kind of like the Oscar Awards for toys.

T.M.X. Elmo, which made it’s debut last September, took home top honors for Overall Toy of the Year. T.M.X. Elmo also won in the Infant/Preschool Toy of the Year category.

President of Mattel Brands, Neil Freidman, had this to say in a press release, “We are thrilled with the honors accorded to our products by the members of our industry,” says Neil Friedman, president of Mattel Brands. “Our biggest reward is the smiles we put on children’s faces, and it’s truly special to be honored by our peers who know exactly what it takes to create something unique and magical that children will really love.”

This Elmo is all about tickles.

Sit T.M.X. Elmo down and hit one of his three “tickle” spots. There’s one under his chin, one on his belly, and one on top of his foot. Yes, this Elmo wiggles just like he did 10 years ago, but that’s just the start. Elmo slaps his belly, falls forward with his butt sticking out, stands back up again only to topple backwards, kicks his legs over his belly, and then stands right back up, all while laughing hysterically.

“Again! Again!”

Stinky Diaper Problems

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Citurs Circles for Diaper PailsThis is an age old parenting concern….how do you get rid of that stinky diaper smell? All kinds of cool diaper pails have been invented to address this situation but there may be a much smaller solution.

A fresh scent for your diaper pail! Odor deodorizing wafers called Citrus Circles for the diaper pail with a fresh, clean citrus scent. They actually work well for for any smelly, contained space, like garbage cans and bathrooms. Made of the same blotter paper as deo disks, with a oil based citrus scent applied. Nontoxic, but of course they should not be ingested. Circular shape, these fit well in 54 quart pails, and most other pails. These really work and last aprox. 3-4 weeks. They are individually wrapped to ensure freshness and are made in the USA.

Wooden Toys for Baby

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Wooden Rattle by HabaThere are tons of cool baby toys out there that are colorful, clever, and…plastic. I have become increasingly concerned about the dangers associated with plastic baby toys as I read more and more about them in the media everyday.

This is one reason I make it a point to buy wooden toys whenever possible. Not only are they a healthier alternative to plastic toys (they do not contain dangerous levels of PVC which could be ingested by children), they last longer too. While plastic toys are frequently and easily destroyed, wooden toys are designed to withstand damage and last far longer than their plastic counterparts.

Without high-tech, plastic toys with all the imagineable bells and whistles, children will have the opportunity to enjoy a more value-driven type of imaginative play with traditional wooden toys. They will be able to engage in meaningful play, developing cognitive and problem-solving skills that will carry throughout the rest of their lives.

Through the Internet it has become easy for parents to choose from a variety of wooden toys such as kitchens and tool benches as well as puzzles, pedal cars, train sets, dollhouses, and even outdoor toys. Haba is one favorite among moms and dads. The picture above shows the Pipapo Wooden Baby Rattle by Haba. This colorful wooden rattle is perfect for small hands and will make a wonderful keepsake that will last for years. It is made of non-toxic painted beech wood parts and thread on an elastic band. Make your baby’s next toy a wooden toy.

Valentine Baby

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

baby valentine bookSo what did you get baby for Valentine’s Day? How about a good book?

Baby made a valentine for Mommy. Where could it be? Is it behind the lamp? No, those are pretty, sparkly flowers! It’s a shiny, glittering delight as you lift the sturdy flaps to help Baby find her very special valentine. This is the description from the book, Where is Baby’s Valentine. It is an adorable introduction for baby to the world of Valentines.

Another option is My Fuzzy Valentine. It’s Valentine’s Day and Elmo’s received an anonymous valentine. Who could have sent it? He checks with all of his friends and finds the answer right back where he started looking—at home! Kids will love touching the fuzzy flocking on every spread! Guess How Much I Love You Book

Or perhaps you can break out that old favorite (at least in my house), Guess How Much I Love You. In this book a young rabbit named Little Nutbrown Hare thinks he’s found a way to measure the boundaries of love. In a heartwarming twist on the “I-can-do-anything-you-can-do-better” theme, Little Nutbrown Hare goes through a series of declarations regarding the breadth of his love for Big Nutbrown Hare. But even when his feelings stretch as long as his arms, or as high as his hops, Little Nutbrown Hare is fondly one-upped by the elder rabbit’s more expansive love. Children and parents will love snuggling up for this one.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and baby!

gDiapers

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

gDiapers Flushable DiaperOkay well I have never tried a gDiaper. I guess that is because I do not have public sewer service…I have a septic tank that if broken would be on my dime to repair. So the thought of a flushable diaper scares me just a bit. I have to admit also that as a die hard cloth diaper user I was not so enchanted when I first heard of gDiapers either but have since changed my opinion. That being said I can now say that I love the the idea behind the product, the environmental issues that these products address, and the amazing people behind the company. On my cloth diaper blog I have posted a few reviews that people submitted to me and amazingly enough both owners of gdiapers have posted useful comments on the blog to help my readers understand these products a bit better. That level of customer service and dedication amazes me.

If not for my septic tank concerns I would not hesitate to try these products just because the owners seem to be such good people and how often can we say that about the products we use. I think I may just have to order some so I can use them when I get back to my place in Ohio this summer.

So what is a gDiaper? As their web site says “Imagine taking your baby’s soiled diaper and simply flushing it down the toilet. No more smell. No more diaper. No more diaper pail. You’re putting waste right where it belongs, in the toilet. Not in a landfill. That’s exactly how gDiapers work.”

Baby Legs

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Baby LegsI just wanted to share a great baby product that I use at home.

My one year old baby boy loves to run around testing out his new walking skills and pants just get in his way. Then I remembered a product I used for him when he a newborn in freezing cold Ohio. BabyLegs! I used them on his legs to keep them extra toasty in below zero weather but they would also work great at protecting his legs and arms against nasty rug burn when he falls and keeping his legs warm without having to wear pants. They are perfect for summer too, when he is wearing just a diaper most days to keep cool.

Reason why you need BabyLegs:

Make diaper changes a breeze
Protect soft knees from harsh surfaces
Keep legs (and arms) warm year round
Provide light weight sun protection
Make EC’n & potty training easier
Jazz up any dance class
Make a fun fashion statement with styles for every occasion

Parker is wearing rainbow BabyLegs on his legs and Jester BabyLegs on his arms. Oh and that adorable cloth diaper is a Deco-Doodlez from Monkey Doodlez in case you were wondering.

Craft Your Own Baby Gear

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Natural Babies Craft BookI recently found a wonderful book entitled “Nature Babies - Natural Knits and Organic Crafts for Moms, Babies, and a Better World“. This book was wonderful and such a rare treat! Any mom that loves to craft and will love it.

Basically it introduces and gives instructions for numerous fiber arts and crafts projects. All of the projects incorporate natural or and/or organic materials such as wool, organic sherpa fleece, organic cotton, etc. Some of the projects included in this book include a hemp stroller tote, nursing shawls, baby hats, clothing, robes, and sweaters, hot water bottle covers, wool play toys, organic baby dolls, baby mobiles, and so much more. It has complete instructions, templates, a techniques guide, and a listing of places to get all of the materials you will need. The BEST part about this book was the full page color pictures of the crafts and some pretty adorable child models. It made me want to start crafting the second I put the book down!

This book would be an excellent holiday gift or even the basis for you to make handmade holdiay gifts for the moms and babies in your life.

Nature Babies: Natural Knits and Organic Crafts for Moms, Babies, and a Better World offers a wonderful, holistic approach to caring for our babies, ourselves, and our planet. Author Tara Jon Manning has created the ultimate guide to treating babies and mommies to the joys of nature and the pleasure of crafting. Explore how to combine handcraft and gift making with the philosophy of “living lightly.” Practice the adage “reduce, reuse, recycle” while creating handcrafted, one-of-a-kind treasures. The inspired designs are supplemented by information about holistic approaches to raising baby and the stewardship of your baby’s world.
